Got a nice ride? Rev your engine for charity at this Pembroke Pines event
Are you a car junkie looking to make a change? Grab your keys and get ready for a weekend ride in support of children in need.
Pembroke Pines-based nonprofit Children’s Harbor, Inc. will host its first car show — Revved — on Saturday, Nov. 15, to fundraise for families in crisis, including kids in the foster care system and young mothers.
The event welcomes all makes and models — classics, muscles, hot rods — to enter their rides for a chance to score prizes and win big in several giveaways it will host.
Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. at Children’s Harbor, Inc’s headquarters, located at 19410 SW 58th Place, with a 15-second “REVVing of the Engines” scheduled for 11 a.m.
Also on the lineup are live music and food trucks from across South Florida.
Children’s Harbor, Inc. was started in 1996 as part of local businessman Bill Mahoney’s solution to a lack of foster home placement options in South Florida. In its nearly 30 years of operation, the nonprofit has expanded its services to include family homes, maternity homes, independent living and family strengthening resources for its vulnerable beneficiaries.
“We do everything that we can to shine light back into the lives of kids who have been impacted by the trauma of child abuse,” Tiffani Dhooge, Children’s Harbor, Inc.’s president and CEO, said on the organization’s website.
The nonprofit is making general admission free and open to the public, encouraging attendees to bring their families and friends for a day of “horsepower and heart.”
To enter a car into the nonprofit’s show, tickets are split into a $10 event participant entry and a $25 VIP participant entry.
The former offers admission to the driver and one guest, access to photo stations and participation in the “People’s Choice” vote while the latter tacks on premium parking placement, a professional photo of your ride, a VIP raffle entry and a preview pass for judges scope out your car before general entries.
Sponsorship packages range from $100-$2,500 and give local businesses a chance to display their branding throughout the car show and receive shoutouts from the nonprofit’s newsletter, social media accounts, vendor tables and the event’s DJ booth.
