Pines Police paints the town with a new ride featuring student art. Have a look
The Pembroke Pines Police Department is preparing to paint the town red — and yellow, green and blue — this fall with its colorful new ride.
The agency debuted its new “Interactive Youth Engagement vehicle,” a patrol car featuring artwork from local elementary schoolers, to community members on its social media platforms Nov. 4.
The multicolored Chevrolet SUV, PPPD spokesperson Amanda Conwell says, was designed by Chief Jose Vargas and Community Affairs Officer Jenniffer Miro to “inspire and connect with children throughout our community.”
Students from FSU Charter Elementary, Franklin Academy, Charter West Elementary and Pembroke Lakes Elementary schools were recruited to create the drawings wrapped around the SUV’s body.
Its “interactable” look lets kids color directly onto the car with markers provided by the department while mirrors placed above sketches of police officers allow children to see themselves as law enforcement “heroes.”
English and Spanish messaging emblazoned onto its sides — including “I’m ready to protect and serve” and “La policia me mantiene seguro” — call back to Pembroke Pines’ diverse and multilingual community.
Though Conwell explains the car is “live” on the streets and can be spotted at upcoming community events, no appearances have been scheduled as of Nov. 5.
Residents hoping to see the sketch-filled patrol SUV will have to keep their eyes peeled while driving or walking around town.
“We have received very positive feedback from our local parents, but most importantly the children who had an opportunity to interact with the vehicle have loved the experience,” Conwell said.
