Broward families get early start on 2026-27 School Choice applications
Broward County Public Schools opens its annual school choice open enrollment window for the 2026-27 school year on Monday, Nov. 3, at 8 a.m.
The open enrollment period gives parents and guardians the option to apply for a school other than the one assigned to their child’s home address.
The application window comes earlier than in previous years and closes on Dec. 19. Families must have a BCPS student ID number to apply.
School choice has played a role in enrollment shifts across Broward County, which district leaders cited in launching the Redefining Our Schools initiative earlier this year.
The plan aims to mitigate nationwide trends of enrollment drops and declining birthrates amid growing interest in school choice options. Currently in phase 2, the initiative involves adding new programs, closing schools and repurposing school sites.
School choice doesn’t apply to students seeking to enter private or charter schools, according to BCPS. Those families must reach out to the individual school to apply.
State law allows students to apply to attend any public school in Florida that’s not at capacity, regardless of where they live, but families trying to enroll their child in another county must reach out to school officials there.
