Five Pembroke Pines schools earn top marks in ‘Schools of Excellence’ honor
Five schools in Pembroke Pines have been recognized as “Schools of Excellence” by the Florida Department of Education for the 2024-2025 school year.
The recognition, announced Oct. 8 by Broward County Public School (BCPS), honors top-performing schools across the state.
This year, 46 schools in the district earned the designation.
The five Pembroke Pines schools:
- Chapel Trail Elementary School
- Lakeside Elementary School
- Pembroke Lakes Elementary School
- Silver Palms Elementary School
- West Broward High School
The “Schools of Excellence” program, established by the Florida Legislature in 2017, recognizes schools that demonstrate sustained academic success.
According to the Florida Department of Education, a school qualifies if its percentage of possible points earned in the state’s school grade calculation ranks in the 80th percentile or higher among schools with the same grade-level grouping (elementary, middle, high, or combination) for at least two of the past three school years.
The honor also grants schools increased autonomy and priority for certain state funding opportunities.
“This significant achievement reflects the dedication of our educators and the support of our families and community partners, reaffirming our commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for every student,” BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said in the Oct. 8 news release.
