Publix to open 3 Florida stores in July: Where, when and about new features

The Publix train continues to roll through Florida, opening new and redesigned stores at a rapid pace. The Lakeland-based chain has opened 11 stores in Florida so far this year and plans to open three more in July, with two of them swooshing their doors open on July 2.

The sweeping changes are part of a massive redesign project to open new stores and update older ones with a new, more modern, shopper- and delivery-friendly design. Publix spent $2.3 billion on the new and remodeled stores across the chain in 2025, according to 2025 filings with the Security Exchange Commission.

In July, Publix will cut the ribbon on stores in Naples, Fernandina Beach and Winter Haven. All three are replacing previous, smaller stores. There are dozens more in the pipeline, according to the Publix locations listings online.

What's in the Publix redesign?

The features vary from store to store, but all of them feature wider aisles, self-checkout lanes, expanded service for online ordering, delivery and curbside pickup, expanded deli options, shopper seating areas, and larger displays in the bakery, meat, and seafood departments.

Some stores also offer amenities such as in-store pizza kitchens, burrito, pasta, and/or olive bars, sushi bars, and "Pours" stations featuring locally roasted coffee, wine, beer, and kombucha, acai bowls, and smoothies that can be enjoyed while shopping. Currently, only a few Florida locations offer Pours stations, according to the Publix locator map.

New Publix in Naples, Florida, a complete rebuild

The new Naples Publix was once an old Naples Publix.

The previous 38-year-old store in the Neapolitan Way Shopping Center was torn down, along with some retail space next to it, to put up a new 48,388-square-foot location with Publix's new design.

The new store will offer a full-service bakery, deli and pharmacy, with an upstairs seating area for customers to stop and relax.

"Customers will also find ramen bowl options and sushi at this location, expanding the store's fresh, ready‑to‑enjoy offerings," said Publix spokesperson Lindsay Willis in an email, adding that customers might get a glimpse of the massive motorized Publix shopping cart zipping around the community.

New Publix in Fernandina Beach, Florida, brings bigger store back to area

The new Fernandina Beach location was also a previous Publix. Locals may be happy to see it, as the island had three grocery stores and two of them, including this one, closed last year to renovate.

Along with this Publix teardown, a Winn-Dixie closed and was converted into an Aldi, which opened in April. That left local shoppers with just Harris Teeter as the only traditional grocery store on the island, according to News4Jax.com.

The new Publix at Island Walk Shopping Center, at 55,701 square feet, will be among the largest in Northeast Florida, matching the one that opened in the Silverleaf planned community near St. Augustine in March.

It will also feature the new "Pours" concept, where customers can order smoothies, acai bowls, or just grab a drink to sip while they shop. The store will also feature options like burrito bowls and a pizza oven within the deli, Willis said.

New Winter Haven, Florida, Publix to replace an older one

It may seem odd that a new Publix is opening a few hundred yards away from an existing one (although Publix does this fairly frequently), but this one is more of a replacement.

The new 54,964-square-foot store Publix at Mariana Acres in Winter Haven, complete with pharmacy and adjacent liquor store, is intended to replace the older store across the street and down a few blocks in Auburndale. That location, which was a former Albertson's, will be closing soon, the company said.

This will make the fourth new Publix to open in its home county of Polk this year, with at least one more planned for Lake Alfred next year.

More grocery store chains expanding in Florida

Florida's growing population is attracting a lot of grocery store chains besides Publix.

• Aldi has already opened around 20 locations this year, with more coming. Aldi opened about 60 locations in the Sunshine State last year.
• The Winn-Dixie Co. last year bought an independent three-store chain to convert and recently completed converting all the Florida Harvey's Supermarket stores into Winn-Dixie locations.
• Trader Joe's opened a location in Daytona Beach in November, another in Melbourne in December, and one in West Palm Beach this month. Another is planned for Orlando.
• Whole Foods opened a Jacksonville store in May, with plans for more locations in Valrico, Bradenton, and Sarasota. A Doral location is opening in July.
• Sprouts Farmers Market opened stores in Naples and Lecanto in May and another in Lake Nona in June.
