If Colombian food is your game, this new restaurant coming to Pembroke Pines wants to serve you in spades.

El Machetico is opening a new location in the southwest Broward city, bringing its home-cooked Latin fare and signature large portions, according to the restaurant’s April 4 Instagram announcement.

An address has not been shared as of April 8, but the brand says soon-to-be patrons can “stay tuned” via its social media platforms.

Doors are scheduled to open in May, the eatery’s head chef and owner Juan Camilo Duenes told VoyageMIA in March.

The first El Machetico — Spanish for “little machete” — opened in 2008 in Doral and expanded in 2023 with the opening of its Miami location, which Duenes says “quickly became a hit among both locals and tourists.”

“From day one, my vision was to bring authentic Colombian flavors to South Florida and create a place where people could gather, celebrate and feel at home,” Duenes told VoyageMIA.

“As a graduate of San Ignacio Culinary School in Miami, I’ve always believed that combining professional culinary training with tradition is the key to creating something truly special.”

Central to El Machetico’s success has been its larger-than-life takes on traditional Colombian dishes, such as sancocho, bandeja paisa and chicharrón.

The restaurant says it sells the nation’s “largest bandeja paisa” — a hearty platter of red beans, pork, white rice, ground meat, eggs, blood sausage, plantains, chorizo and arepas — by offering a three-tiered version and an XL version that can serve six.

Other grand offerings include a two-tiered sancocho, or stew, and a 3-foot fried pork belly, or chicharrón.

El Machetico’s other two restaurants are at 9674 NW 25th St. in Doral and 3399 NW 72nd Ave. in Miami.
