Bahama Breeze restaurant in Pembroke Pines set to close. Here’s what we know
A popular Caribbean-themed restaurant chain with a location in Pembroke Pines is closing its doors after a 30-year run.
Bahama Breeze, owned by Darden Restaurants and known for its tropical cocktails and island-inspired atmosphere, announced Tuesday, Feb. 3, that it will close its remaining 28 locations in the coming months.
Half of the restaurants will shut down permanently, while the others will be converted into Darden-owned chains.
The parent company also owns Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse, among others.
“The 14 resturants designated for permanent closure are expected to continue operating through April 5,” Darden Restaurants wrote in a news release.
The locations chosen to be converted are scheduled to transition during the next 12 to 18 months.
Both Bahama Breeze restaurants in South Florida, including the Pembroke Pines eatery at 11000 Pines Blvd., are slated to close. The Pines location will continue to operate through mid-spring.
The other South Florida Bahama Breeze is located at 12395 SW 88th St. in Miami.
The first Bahama Breeze opened in 1996 on International Drive in Orlando.
The parent company says the reason for the closer is that the locations “were no longer a strategic priority,” according to the news release.
Of the 28 Bahama Breeze restaurants set to be repurposed or shuttered, 15 are in Florida.
