Independence Day is Saturday. Here’s how Pembroke Pines will let freedom ring
What’s red, white and blue all over? The City of Pembroke Pines this weekend.
Pines hosts its free annual Fourth of July bash at the Pines Recreation Center, located at 7401 Pines Blvd., from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
As Independence Day approaches, so does the promise of patriotic decor, classic American games and a dazzling fireworks show from the southwest Broward city.
This year’s focus — America250, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 — is aiming to go above and beyond the usual fanfare.
“Bring your family and friends and immerse yourself in a night of American pride, joy, music, food, games, and celebration as we honor 250 years of freedom in the most memorable way possible,” the city’s event announcement says.
To ring in the historical milestone, a Colonial-era photo opportunity and keepsake experience dubbed “Dress Like It’s 1776” and matching decor will headline the festivities.
A time capsule activity where attendees can leave notes and mementos for future generations also ties into the event’s theme.
What other activities are in store?
Expect red, white and blue amusement rides, pin collecting and cookie decorating stations, sensory play and a toddler-friendly area outfitted with bubbles and ride-on toys.
Early birds will also be duly rewarded, with the first 500 guests receiving free American flags and the first 500 kids receiving free patriotic sunglasses.
A “Firecracker Fun Zone” — a game zone with classics such as potato sack races, ring toss and cornhole — and two pie-eating contests will be set up for those hungry for competition. Kids dig in at 7 p.m. and adults at 8.
Soundtracking the celebration are live performances by DJ Felix Sama and the Remix Band. Bites from 20 food trucks and sips from a mobile bar set to serve patriotic cocktails will also keep you fueled to party all night long.
And last but far from least: A “breathtaking” red, white and blue fireworks show at 9 p.m.
