A weekend city-wide traffic operation in Pembroke Pines resulted in five arrests as well as hundreds of citations and warnings, police say.

In an April 27 Instagram post, the department said officers, along with specialized units, issued 378 traffic and parking citations for violations that included speeding, driving with a suspended license, lack of insurance and misuse of handicapped parking spaces.

Five people were arrested, including a driver accused of fleeing officers.

“Participating officers were spread city-wide, from 10 a.m. on Friday, April 24, through 3 a.m. on Saturday, April 25,” PPPD Public Information Officer Amanda Conwell told the Pembroke Pines News on April 28.

“Unsafe drivers, speeders and parking violators were specifically targeted. We conduct traffic enforcement operations as often as we are able and we will continue to do so in the future.”

Conwell also said that since the department’s Instagram post, eight additional traffic citations from the operation were added for “moving, non-moving and criminal traffic violations.”

Officials say traffic concerns are the largest complaint they receive from the city’s residents.
