This week in Pembroke Pines: Cinco de Mayo, ‘Star Wars’ celebrations & more
This week brings a mix of celebrations to start the month in Pembroke Pines, including a globally recognized day built on a pun from the “Star Wars” franchise and the Cinco de Mayo holiday.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War, often celebrated with festivals, food and music.
Here’s what’s happening this week in your city:
May the Fourth Movie Night
In a galaxy not too far away, fans of the iconic franchise can join Baoshi Food Hall + Bar from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday to celebrate all things “Star Wars.”
Costumes are encouraged as fans gather in the food hall to watch films from the series, enjoy bites and spend time with fellow Jedi.
The event is free. Those interested can reserve a spot through Eventbrite.
Coffee with a Cop
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a cup of joe: The Pembroke Pines Police Department will host another Coffee with a Cop event at Target, located at 11253 Pines Blvd.
From 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, officers will meet with community members for coffee and conversation.
Cinco de Mayo block party
One of Pembroke Pines’ newest speakeasies, Agave Bandido is hosting a block party to celebrate Cinco de Mayo starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Mexican kitchen and tequila bar, located at 14531 SW Fifth St., will feature DJ’s, outdoor bars, stilt walkers, face painters and a 360 photo booth.
