Pines Day — City’s 66th Birthday

To celebrate the city of Pembroke Pines’ last six decades of growth, the city is inviting residents to its annual Pines Day from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Charles F. Dodge City Center.

This theme for this year’s event, Route 66: The Road to 250, also celebrates another major milestone, the United States’ 250th anniversary since its independence in 1776.

Like any birthday celebration, there will be cake and a large “cupcake roll out.”

For more information, call the city’s Special Events Office at 954-392-2116.

The cost per person is about $50 and includes all materials, such as the vessels, plants and decorative elements for the terrariums.

Lucky Cat Terrariums + Forest Basket will be on site to guide participants through the process of designing and assembling a self-sustaining botanical piece.

“You’ll learn how to layer soil, select the right plants and create a balanced ecosystem that thrives with minimal maintenance,” the event description reads. “Whether you’re new to plants or already enjoy working with greenery, this class is designed to be approachable, practical and rewarding.”

Tickets must be purchased in advance on Eventbrite.

‘Body Parts’ Theatrical Play

Presented by the Department of Theatre at Broward Community College, “Body Parts” is an original one-act play by Broward College Professor Mariah Reed and her students in the Performing and Cultural Arts Theatre on South Campus at 7200 Pines Blvd.

The show will run from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26.

Performances take place Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., while Sunday’s show will be a 2 p.m. matinee.

‘Body Parts’ is a collection of original scenes, monologues and songs about society’s obsession with physical beauty and the ways in which people judge one another unfairly based upon physical characteristics, culture and orientation,” the show’s description reads.

Tickets for all performances are free.
