Launch your calendar apps, it’s time for your weekend roundup of Pembroke Pines events.

This Saturday and Sunday, the city is honing in on fitness and creative expression underscored by one key element: community.

On the schedule are a first-of-its-kind racket sport event, a city-sponsored ceramic workshop, a sticky-and-sweet contest and a Mediterranean picnic.

Pickleball Classic

Leave it all on the court — or kitchen — at Pembroke Pines Charter School Foundation’s inaugural Pickleball Classic on Saturday. From 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., pickleballers of all levels can enjoy men’s, women’s, co-ed and kids’ doubles games at Paul J. Maxwell Park, with cash prizes available for advanced divisions. The entry fee is $60 and benefits the charter school foundation.

Clay Day: Vase Creation

Add a unique piece to your home decor with this ceramic vase workshop Saturday at the Studio18 Art Complex. Resident artist Jose Pita Vazquez will guide participants through slab and hand-building techniques, with a second session on April 25 set to teach attendees sgraffito and glazing techniques. Tickets are $30 for the all-ages event and include materials.

Rise & Run

Kickstart your weekend alongside Pines Running Co. on Saturday at 7 a.m. Runners will meet at Flamingo Park, 1900 NW 122nd Terrace, for a 2-5 mile trot suited for all paces — jog, stride or sprint. Members can then enjoy post-workout mingling with other fitness junkies. Admission is free, but requires registration.

Peeps Diorama Contest Voting

Cast your vote in the Southwest Regional Library’s spring marshmallow diorama contest through April 20. On exhibit are several Peeps displays created by participants of all ages featuring mixed media materials and the familiar chick-themed sweet. Admission is free and open to the public.

Moroccan Community Picnic

Enjoy a complimentary picnic and traditional tea time courtesy of the Moroccan American Council Association of South Florida on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The event will take over C.B. Smith Park and feature soccer, volleyball, dodgeball, face painting and henna for kids. Admission is free and open to the public.
