The egg, long seen as a symbol of fertility and renewal in many ancient cultures, has become synonymous with Easter traditions for many families.

Children scour gardens for colorful spheres, hoping to uncover sweet treats along the way.

Before the rise of Christianity, eggs were widely associated with spring and new life.

Early Christians adapted these beliefs, solidifying the egg as a representation of the resurrection, with the shell a metaphor for Jesus’ tomb.

Pembroke Pines plans to celebrate this long-standing tradition with its annual egg hunts on Saturday, April 4.

The city will host simultaneous hunts at two locations:

  • Pembroke Shores Park, 501 SW 172nd Ave.
  • Pines Recreation Field, 7400 Pines Blvd.

Gates open at 9:30 a.m., with the hunts beginning at 10 a.m.

The hunts will include bounce houses, games, prizes and visits from the Easter Bunny.

There will be an estimated 58,000 eggs for this year’s hunt. The first 1,000 kids will receive free bunny ears.

The hunts will be divided into four age groups: 0-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

Admission is free and registration is not required. For more information, call 954-392-2116.
