As college football fans retreat after the noise of this past week, Pembroke Pines turns its attention to a different kind of storytelling, the kind shaped by paintbrushes and paper.

The human stories behind the scoreboard often linger after the final whistle, similarly to the creative moments that bring people together off the bleachers.

Here are three artsy events happening around the city this week:

Ladies’ Paint + Sip

For those looking to unwind with fellow gals, Baoshi Food Hall + Bar is hosting a Ladies’ Paint and Sip Session from 7 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday. No experince is needed, as the event invites attendees to tap into their inner artist. The drink of the night will be an Empress 1908 gin-based cocktail. Tickets for the event start at $28 and can be purchased here.

Lo-Fi craft hour

At this event held at the South Regional/Broward College Library, crafters are invited to relax, listen to music and create their own kirigami from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Kirigami is a Japanese paper art technique that combines cutting and folding designs. Registration is required and can be done here.

Opening reception of Edison Peñafiel

South Florida-based artist Edison Peñafiel will officially open his exhibition on Thursday at the Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery and Exhibit Hall, located at 601 City Center Way. The exhibition is called “Me pongo el sol al hombro y el mundo es amarillo” (I Carry the Sun on My Shoulder and the World Turns Yellow), and will feature a large-scale installation composed of suspended paintings that shape the gallery into “a space of movement and pause,” according to the event’s description. The free opening reception starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. More information here.
