With the college football national championship game set for Monday night, when the Miami Hurricanes face the Indiana Hoosiers at Hard Rock Stadium, signs of the big game are already showing up close to home.

Many Pembroke Pines residents reported several military aircrafts flying in and out of North Perry Airport, believed to be part of rehearsals for a possible “VIP” arrival.

Though airport officials have not confirmed why Pembroke Pines would be on the flight path, President Donald Trump is expected to be in South Florida for the championship game.

Before the crowds and security ramp up, Pembroke Pines residents can enjoy a calmer weekend with a K-Pop-themed night, an early-morning run and a celebration honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Here’s what’s going on in the city from Saturday, Jan. 17, through Monday, Jan. 19:

K-Pop Night

Baoshi Food Hall + Bar is hosting a K-Pop event with music, dancing and rewatching performances with fellow fans from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Those interested in this free event can reserve a spot here.

Pines Running Co.

Runners of all paces are invited to a “long run” on Saturday, hosted by the Pines Running Co. Starting at 7 a.m., runners will meet at Haute Coffee, 5150 S. Flamingo Road in Southwest Ranches.

After the run, runners can enjoy a sweet treat with 20% at Haute Coffee house. Free water bottles will be provided.

For those interested in running with the crew, they can RSVP here through the RunAdic app.

MLK Parade & Celebration

Although it technically kicks off the new week, the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Celebration, hosted by the city of Pembroke Pines, is scheduled for Monday at the Charles F. Dodge City Center.

For the first time, the city will host a parade, starting at 9 a.m., traveling south along 103rd Avenue to Washington Street, looping north to 106th Avenue and concluding in front of City Hall.

The post-parade celebration will include live music, poetry, dance performances, family arts and crafts and bounce houses. There will also be business vendors and food trucks on-site.
